Our creditor practice includes recovery of real estate and other property pledged as collateral, bankruptcy adversary litigation (including prosecution and defense of dischargeability claims), chapter 11 claims and plan litigation, collection matters and non-bankruptcy workouts. We represent creditors in federal and California state courts, as well as arbitration and mediation matters.
Trial Practice:
Our representation of clients in a wide variety of industries in the insolvency context provides with a unique perspective of the litigation process. We bring that experience to our trial practice which allows us to successfully conduct trials in state and federal courts.
Workouts and Restructuring:
Bankruptcy is not always the answer to financial problems. The Shinbrot Firm is actively involved in pre-Bankruptcy work-outs and restructuring of businesses and individual debt, often times avoiding the need for a formal bankruptcy filing.
Bankruptcy M&A:
The bankruptcy process provides a unique forum for the sale and purchase of assets and businesses and the trading of debt. The Shinbrot Firm represents sellers and buyers of bankruptcy assets, claims traders and investors in financially distressed companies.

Latest Firm News:
Jeffrey Shinbrot spoke on March 20, 2013, at the International Law Section of the LACBA on Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code and recovery of foreign assets.
After obtaining a defense verdict in a multi-million dollar adversary case, the Shinbrot Firm successfully represented our client at the appellate level, resulting in a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals published opinion on the enforceability of arbitration clauses in federal insolvency proceedings.
Shinbrot Firm obtains dismissal with prejudice of bankruptcy adversary case alleging real estate fraud and breach of fiduciary duty.

In re Westland Parcel J Partners: Represented chapter 11 debtor to monetize distressed Long Beach Airport ground lease, resulting in the sale of the company’s real estate assets, and liquidation of secured and priority tax claims.
Hanjin International Corp. (Wilshire Grand Hotel): Represented the Wilshire Grand Hotel in business and litigation matters for the decade that preceded its closing, including assistance in matters related to the wind-down of the historic hotel’s business operations.
In re Las Plumas Lumber & Truss Co.: Represented chapter 11 debtor that was formally one of California’s largest lumber distributors through plan confirmation. Case included the resolution of labor union matters, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation claims, as well as sale of real and personal property assets.
In re Death Row Records, Inc.: Represented hip hop label Rap-A-Lot 2k Records in the prosecution and defense of claims relating to recording contract involving music by artists Scarface and the late Tupak Shakur in the Death Row and Marion Suge Knight chapter 11 bankruptcy cases.
In re McLucas: Represented Educational Financial Services, a secured lender who was not originally included in the debtors’ bankruptcy schedules. The Shinbrot Firm obtained a temporary restraining order and then prevailed at a contempt trial resulting in recovery of the client’s security and negotiated judgment for non-dischargeability.
After obtaining a defense verdict in a multi-million dollar adversary case, the Shinbrot Firm successfully represented our client at the appellate level, resulting in a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals published opinion on the enforceability of arbitration clauses in federal insolvency proceedings.
Obtained $998,000 judgment in favor of injured plaintiff and structured a payment arrangement that enabled uninsured business owner to continue operations while paying value of the claim to our client.
